Local Philly designer Seun Olubodun, in the spirit of entrepreneurship, created his first set of tees inspired by his British bull-dog, Duke. Seun's British influence goes back to his childhood, where he spent some of his early years. His beginnings also explain the branding of his tee-shirt experiment: Duke & Winston, Duke for his beloved pup, and Winston as in Winston Churchill.
Aside from the daring move to create his own t-shirt line and his unique use of British imagery, Seun is also environmentally conscious. As he describes it, his sustainable practices include heather gray tees (pattern picture above) made from an organic cotton and polyester blend. Seun is also striving to have the materials produced in the US. As for the graphics, he is proud to state that they are all locally manufactured, within a three block radius, right in Northern Liberties.
His line has a certain customer in mind: a clean cut, polo wearing, boat shoes and trench coat type of guy, actually, much like the way Seun dresses himself. Interestingly enough, most of his men's t-shirts appeal to women as well, so his men's line could be considered unisex. However, it should be mentioned that he does have a separate women's line as well.
As for the near future, look out for polos, graphic simplicity in t-shirt designs and maybe even a little embroidery for the upcoming Spring.
